World Series of Birding

Rambling Redstarts

Welcome to the Rambling Redstarts team page!

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, our team will be participating in the longest running birding competition in the United States, the World Series of Birding! We are competing as an NJA Ambassador Team with the goal of tracking down as many birds from across the globe as we can!

Our four team members are Cape May Bird Observatory's Program Coordinator Adehl Schwaderer and Associate Naturalists Karen Thompson, Dave Pollard, and Lynn Pollard. Before becoming a full-time staff member in June 2022, Adehl previously worked for CMBO, first in the fall of 2018 as an Interpretative Naturalist, and again in 2019 as the George Myers Naturalist. Karen is a longtime supporter of New Jersey Audubon and a dedicated volunteer who assists with dozens of CMBO programs annually. Karen is also a former member of the Board and an avid traveler who has visited all seven continents in her quest to see new birds. Dave & Lynn moved to Cape May after spending most of their adult lives in West Virginia. The couple spends countless hours annually volunteering for CMBO in the form of trip leading, planning festivals, assisting with Road Scholar tours, and are excellent birders and teachers to boot. Lynn enjoys sewing and is an avid native gardener, while Dave is a passionate Yankees fan and enjoys fishing.

Now, how do we plan to track down birds from across the globe? Well, in addition to our four core team members, we are encouraging our friends and families to join in on the fun! From Flynn Pollard participating all the way in China or Karen’s friends Magella and Peter birding from England, we hope to add as many exotic bird species to our one-day total as possible!

Your donation to our team will help support CMBO's educational programs, as well as the volunteers and seasonal staff who lead a large portion of our programs. With your help, we hope to channel our passion for conservation and environmental education to foster a future where people and nature thrive together.

Thank you for visiting our page and for your support! We can’t wait for the 42nd World Series of Birding to begin!
