Captain Hugh Carola started the Hackensack RiverCreepers back in 2002. The current lineup includes Hugh's son Dan Carola, and their best birding buddies Dave Kaplan and Ray Duffy. Their "unofficial LGA" is Watershed Management Area 5 - which includes the entire Hackensack and Hudson River watersheds in NJ. The team is sitting on a 24-year cumulative total of 200 species, including their team best of 134 in 2023. Together with our WSB supporters, they’ve raised over $200,000 to support our ongoing work to protect, preserve and restore the Hackensack River and its diverse wildlife habitats.
