As the Galbatrosses, we are a team of scientists, birders, writers and conservationists who were originally connected through the National Audubon Society as well as our love of all things female birds! In 2019, our team gathered for the first time at the World Series of Birding in Cape May with the goal of only counting female birds as our submission in this competitive birding event! Although nearly coming in last place, we found 31 bird species we were able to identify as females! Since then, our team has been busy celebrating Female Bird Day and hosting various birding events where we focus on female birds! We also had a journal article published in Ibis earlier in 2025 entitled "A focus on females can improve science and conservation" with our lead author Joanna Wu. We are so excited to be back in Cape May with the goal of finding more than 31 female birds!!
